Ceram is an island bordered on the north by the Ceram Sea and the Banda Sea on the south which is part of Indonesia. It is part of the Maluku provinsi and is overseen from Ambon. The island itself has an area of 6,621 square miles and an estimated population of over 92,187 people.

Mountains cover the island of Ceram, with the highest peak being Mount Binaiyi in the central part of the island. There are many rivers, but they are all rather small and even small boats can barely use them during the rainy season. Ceram is covered with tropical forests and is hot and rainy year-round. Due to its tropical climate and forests, it is an excellent place to produce timber and other forest products which are the island's main industry.

The people of Ceram are mostly Malay, Papuan, or some mix of the two. Their language has no written script, they fish, hunt, and make flour out of the sago palm tree, and the live in houses supported by pile. People who live on the coast grow some rice, corn, coffee, and tobacco and speak Malay since there are some Muslim and Christian settlements there. The resident Christians were part of the failed attempt to start the South Moluccan Republic.
