CEP is the the
median miss distance; it is also known as the
Circle of Equal Probability. The CEP,
expressed as a
distance,
defines a circle about the
aim point. Half of the
weapons dropped/
launched/
fired at this point will strike inside this circle, and half outside. Their actual miss distances may vary wildly, making the
average miss distance much larger than the CEP.
This value is used by targeteers to determine roughly how many weapons are needed to achieve a desired Damage Expectancy (DE).
