A burbclave is "A city-state with its own constitution, a border, laws, cops, everything.". A burbclave is a franchised nation, split up into lots in suburbs all over the USA (and elsewhere, presumably).

The burbclave is a logical (if extreme) progression from the gated communities that exist today. Gated communities are themselves a progression (in the direction of isolationism and paranoia) from housing estates.

The name "burbclave" is a portmanteau of the words "suburb" and "Enclave".
