In demonology Buer is President of Hell, the tenth in the infernal hierarchy, and commander of 50 legions. The main extant source of information about him is the Goetia, which is the first section of Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis, or The Lesser Key of Solomon, a medieval grimoire circulated in the 17th century.

Today Buer is a small German parish that falls under the township of Melle in the Osnabrueck district of Lower Saxony.

On the site of the modern city of Gelsenkirchen in Westphalia, which until 1930 was known as Gelsenkirchen-Buer, stood the ancient city of Buer.

Near the beginning of Graham Green’s Brighton Rock, Pinkie says: “Christ… won’t anybody stop that buer’s mouth?”, referring to Ida singing.
