Amateur radio enthusiast and Free Software coder, he is one of the more visible proponents of Free Software, though he has had disagreements with Eric Raymond (ESR). Lately, he has been very helpful in disentangling the myriad of "Free" or "Open Source" licenses, and has been quite eager and willing to advocate changes when the letter does not match the spirit. He also runs technocrat.net.
