Brøderbund was a software company that in 80s and early 90s made a lot of games and programs for children, including the Print Shop, Kid Pix, and the infamous "Where * is Carmen Sandiego?" series. In the world of the Apple II, they were gods. They were also, by the way, Cyan's distributor for some time, which is why Myst has a Brøderbund logo in the opening sequence.

Sadly, they have been assimilated into the evil that is Mattel Interactive.
