Bobby Hull, father of Brett Hull, popularized the slap shot in professional hockey. He was the first player to have the curve in the blade of the stick you see in everyone's gear these days; his slapshot was also responsible for the heavy sanctioning that is applied to the allowed limits of the blade curve in the modern NHL.

He had a slapshot that travelled in excess of 120 mph; his routine at the beginning of each game was, upon first receiving possession of the puck, he would turn to the opposing team's goalie, get the puck in his wheelhouse, and shoot that sonuvabitch as hard as he could at the goalie's head. Just to let him know Bobby was in town.
