Like the Billroth I, the Billroth II operation also involves an antrectomy, but this time, the stomach is anastomosed to the jejunum instead of the duodenum.


This procedure is named after the German surgeon Theodor Billroth, who first performed this operation in 1881 on a 43 year old woman with pyloric gastric cancer.
