Longtime classical composer, usually known for his film scores and particularly for his notable relationship with Alfred Hitchcock in the late 50's to the early 60's. Out of this synergy stemmed the ingenious scores to, among others, Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Psycho. Herrmann essentially redefined film music, dragging it from the dregs of recycled Tchaikovski and into an art form of its own.
