Benford's law of controversy was a witty adage that originally appeared in Gregory Benford's 1980 novel Timescape. It states that:

"Passion is inversely proportional to the amount of real information available."

This adage is popular enough that it has sometimes been referred to as "Benford's law"; this is potentially confusing, as there is already a Benford's law in the field of mathematics and statistics; hence the extended name.
