Abbreviated as BCE, b.c.e., or B.C.E., the phrase before Christian era is used to indicate the number of years before the birth of Christ or the beginning of the Common era or the Christian era. Recently the term "before Christian era" has become the politically correct way to express dates that were once expressed using BC; however the phrase "before common era" is considered to be more politically correct.
