This is the name proposed for
Durban, South Africa. Well actually it is
iThekweni, but this is
Zulu for '
Bay shaped like bull's testicles'.
Sounds kinda
weird to
change the name of a
relatively well know place. But I understand were they are coming from. I think that Durban is named after
Sir Benjamin D'Urban. A leader of South Africa during
Apartheid.
This is just on of the many name changes that are proposed. They want to change
Johannesburg to
iGoli (
Zulu for '
City of gold') and
Pretoria to
Tshwane (
Sotho for '
We are the same'). They have all ready change the name of the
provinces, such as
Johannesburg-Pretoria area is now called
Gauteng (
Tswana for '
Place of gold')
