This is a simple magic trick, currently practiced by David Blaine, to form the illusion of levitation. Stand with your back towards your audience, of a small group of people, and turn to 2 o'clock. The audience represents 6 o'clock. Now rise slowly to your toes while lifting your arms into the air. The finale simply consists of you lifting your right foot, the one closest to the audience, off of the ground. At their perspective your pant leg and shoe will completely cover your back foot, thus the illusion of levitation.

David Blaine filmed the reaction of a crowd of people while doing this levitation, then cut to a new shot of him suspended by wires for television purposes. It was stunning to see such a simple trick used so effectively.
