An event in which asipiring race car drivers can get excellent practice at the skills of car control. A typical autocross course takes about one minute to run, and includes about 15-20 turns. That works out to about one turn per 3 or 4 seconds. Compare that the a proper race track, which typically takes about two minutes to run and has about 15 turns, or one turn per 8 seconds. While there's no substitute for being at the slip angle limit for 5 seconds straight, as on a real race track, autocross definitely counts as serious motorsport.
