Founded in 1953, The Association of Clinical Biochemists or ACB is the British professional body dedicated to the practice and promotion of clinical science, which is essentially involved with the interpretation of results from chemical and biochemical tests performed on various body fluids (e.g. blood) to assist in the diagnosis and management of disease.
According to the Certification officer the Association is a registered independent trade union, although all trade union activities are conducted through a body called the Federation of Clinical Scientists or FCS, of which all ACB members are automatically members. It is the FCS that actually conducts all pay negotiations on behalf of the members.
