A person who has no shadow. People from parts of the world where the sun is vertical at noon twice a year. (thus no shadows!! uh oh!) The plural of the Latin ascius. Because Eratosthenes lived near some of the more ascian regions of the word he probably had an easier time calculating the diameter of the earth by looking at sunlight at the bottom of wells (well, Syene and Alexandria aren't really ascian but they're getting there . . .)

It can also be used to describe a day that is too goddammed hot.
