Named after
Argentina, the country where it was first located, the Argentinosaurus is the
largest dinosaur that has ever been
discovered.
The dinosaur is very similar to the popular Brachiasaurus and is a part of the Titanosauridae family. Only about ten percent of the creature's remains were found, including back, hip, and leg bones. One vertebrae was measured at 5 feet in cross section.
It is thought to have lived during the late cretaceous period.
The dinosaur is massive but not larger than the common day blue whale, it's dimensions are as follows:
Argentinosaurus is one of the newest
dinosaurs identified in a recent string of discoveries including dinosaurs such as
Ultrasauros,
Seismosaurus,
Giganotosaurus, and
Amargasaurus.
