Recent documentation shows that Australia, among others, offered refuge to Nazi scientists after WWII. They "adopted" 35 nazis in total, 15 of which had been in the SS and 6 of whom were wanted war criminals.

The nazi scientists went to work directly in the defense department and greatly boosted the Aussie military infrastructure.

Great Britain brokered the deal. It's an ill wind that blows no good, as they say.
