A film by René Clair, 1931

Emile and Louis are cellmates in prison. They concoct a plan to escape which fails. Louis runs away, while Emile is left inside. Louis starts a profitable phonograph company, which hires Emile upon his release.

Emile falls in puppy love with a receptionist at the company, but her uncle and guardian forbids him to see her. Emile keeps wooing her (and showing up his foreman) which causes problems on the assembly line. Emile is brought to see the president, who happens to be Louis, his old pal. Louis pretends not to recognize Emile until his staff has left, after which they goof around like old times. Louis gives Emile a check for his love's (who has now started flirting with another man) dowry.

Meanwhile, another bunch of old friends from prison come to visit Louis. They don't want a dowry; they want half of Louis's fortune, or they tell the cops about his escape. He agrees, but the gang gets caught by the police breaking into Louis's house.
