A black-footed boy bounds
From mud puddle to
Mud;
Chases a black stallion
That shifts and rolls
Through the black night sky.
The black steed gallops ahead,
Steals Orion's belt,
The belt now black to the boy's world.
The black,
Now mule,
Makes black light fall
From the mighty hunter's club.
The black,
Now dog,
Covers the half-black moon.

Now the boy with black hands
Turns inward to his always black
Never memories:

A black-hearted pair—
Who must have shared
One
Stone
Heart
For their black blood ran slow
And cold
Through shrunken veins
Disposed of a
Black-haired boy,
At the black steps
Of a Habit;
Black by the
Un-
Breathable night
Fog
Like their own
Clear,
Black,
Consciences.

A single black shriek—shocks
His black ears—
From the great black,
Now hawk,
Dead by the black
Hand of death.
The boy watches
The bird
Fall slowly
To the black,
Still sea,
Spinning
Endlessly in a
Tight
Black
Circle.
The second-hand light of the moon,
Which would be black
Without the sun,
Breaks free from the
Traveling black zoo prison.
And in the used light
That reflects off the black,
Still sea,
The boy with his black eyes
Sees:

A splash
From the great bird,
A ripple
From the noble dog,
A wave
From the sturdy mule,
A hurricane
From the stallion's
Black nostrils.

And all was clear to the boy.
