nightmare (thing)

A nightmare is the sort of dream that can be so enveloping that you don't realize it isn't real. It is the perception of some fear through a realistic medium or media, usually visual. Within the nightmare, you will characteristically be chased or stalked by some abhorrent device (man, machine, clown, etc.) from which you cannot escape.

Some people will realize that they are within a dream and attempt to escape the dream rather than the dream's antagonist. This attempt may be effective, because once efforts are directed toward waking up, the dream sequence has virtually no consequence on your perception. At that point, it is possible to whisper quietly so as to wake another in the room with you, or to merely contract your muscles, jolting you awake.

The imaginary technicolor dinosaur that is DeeDee's best friend on Dexter's Laboratory, Koosy is a fanciful tie-dyed animal. He is pure fun. From tea parties to dancing, Koosy keeps up with DeeDee's every want.

Cast out from his homeland, Koosy had no friends until he met DeeDee. As she was his only friend, Koosy desired too much to impress her, and so he pretended to be a king such that she would love him even more. Their friendship remains strong, although his secret was uncovered through DeeDee's persistence in going to his kingdom.

Dom Delouise provides the voice of Koosy.

DeeDee (person)

DeeDee is a character in the Dexter's Laboratory series of comics and cartoons. She is the lanky sister of Dexter, boy genius. Always wearing a pink ballet outfit with matching shoes, DeeDee is constantly dancing and prancing about. Bright yellow hair, divided into two ribbon-bearing pig-tails, DeeDee is a "typical" fun blonde. She is 12 years old, and cannot help but bother her intelligent little brother. Although Dexter despises her, DeeDee loves him sincerely. She is the ultimate innocent, and cannot be corrupted. She is also the president of the all girl ballet and flowers and fun society. Not entirely devoid of scientific ability, DeeDee won a science fair with her invention: the merry-go-motion.

Her greatest friend, aside from her brother, is Koosy, an imaginary technicolor dinosaur. DeeDee did have a boyfriend, Mandark, for a very short time, as she couldn't avoid destroying his lab with her dancing.

The voice of DeeDee is produced by the vocal chords of Kat Cressida.

Dexter, of Dexter's Laboratory, is a small red-haired boy who is a scientific genius. At only 6 years old, Dexter speaks with an accent that only a middle-aged Austrian man would tote. He typically wears thick-rimmed black glasses, black slacks, a white lab coat, and purple latex gloves. He has one older sister, DeeDee, and is otherwise a member of a typical nuclear family. His arch nemesis is Mandark, lard of dorkness.

Dexter is alone in the world, with only science to keep him company. He creates robots and intelligent machines so that he does not become stupid, a state thoroughly feared by Dexter. He loves school, and is the teacher's pet until Mandark enters the scene. His sister is constantly ruining his scientific endeavors, and so Dexter is always on the run.

Gennedy Tartakovsky is credited with creating Dexter's lab. He developed DeeDee first, and then went on to create Dexter, her ultimate opposite. A dancing DeeDee was the 1991…

In the context of recording brain-related electrical activity, electrodes are composed of a conducting metal of one sort or another. In general, the best sort of electrode to use when recording 5-30 microvolt activity, are those made of silver/silver chloride. These reduce the ever-present limitation of the detection of activity in certain amplitude ranges.

There are two general sorts of electrodes employed in EEG recording: intracranial electrodes and scalp electrodes.

Intracranial electrodes are electrodes that are placed inside the cranium. They record the activity of brain areas directly, as they are in direct contact with cells. Still used in animal studies, intracranial electrodes are usually left within the skull for extended periods of time, and sometimes are only removed after death. They are not used in human research nowadays, except in extreme circumstances, although they were used in the past before ethics became such a big deal in psychology.

Intracranial electrodes can record activity from specific brain regions, unlike scalp electrodes, and their recording specificity is not interfered with by the skull or scalp.
