Dream Log: January 14, 2003 (idea)

So, it's been a couple days since the actual dream, but life being what it is, it's taken me a bit to catch up.

In my dream, CowboyNeal and I were in Chicago, where we had gone to visit robbnotrob. Rob, or Big Rob as we called him, lived in a massive Gothic mansion, in the midst of Chicago. If I remember correctly, it was set near Watertower Place, and was fully decked out as mansion - the manservants, scullery maids, crystal, torches in the wall.

But one of the key difference was that rather then his normal Dutch face, Rob had become black. Not slightly black, but deep black - like the sky in a new moon.

Intoxicated Man (thing)

The first solo album by Mick Harvey, the album was put together as a homage to Serge Gainsbourg. It was released in October of 1995, and recorded in Melbourne and London.

The homage to Gainsbourg featured translation of Gainsbourg pieces from the original French, and as many of Gainsbourg wrote mostly for women, features Anita Lane singing many of the female roles.

An album created by Mick Harvey. Pink Elephants was created, along with Intoxicated Man, by Harvey to showcase and translate the songs of Serge Gainsbourg from the original French into English. Whereas Intoxicated Man was done more as a standalone album, Pink Elephants is not as a tighly bound, and in many ways represents odds and ends of a number of Gainsbourg's songs. However, Pink Elephants does have a number of some of Gainsbourg's better known songs.

When asked, upon completing Pink Elephants what he would be doing next he replied "I think it's safe to say something entirely different". Discography:

Je t'aime... moi non plus (thing)

This song was originally recorded by Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg in October 1967. Written and composed by Gainsbourg, it was originally slated to be released in 1967. Arrangement was done by Michel Colombier. However, Bardot demanded that it not be released, and so was shelved. In 1986, the song was finally released.

The second version of the song, released in 1969 was done again by Gainsbourg, but was sung by Jane Birkin. It went one to become an international hit, and now is part of the regular Eurosleaze song set.

It has been covered by Sounds Nice in 1970, on their album Love At First Sight, with the song named Love At First Sight. Barry Adamson covered it on The Negro Inside Me in 1993, Judge Dread in 1995 on Big Twenty Four, also in 1995 by Anita Lane on the single The World's A Girl - as "I Love You... Nor Do I." Dr. Benjamin Spock (person)

Born in 1903 and died on March 15, 1998, Dr. Benjamin Spock was most famous, originally, for his publishing, in 1946 of Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care. The power this book had, and how drastically it changed the foundations of parenting are difficult to overestimate. For example, prior to Spock's book, the most famous work on childcare was a book by John B. Watson's "Psychological Care of Infant and Child".

Watson's recommendations included such gems as ""Never hug or kiss your children, never let them sit in your lap," Watson instructed, lest they drown in "Mother Love." As well, he recommended: "If you must, kiss them once on the forehead when they say good night. Shake hands with them in the morning." Watson felt very strongly against thumb-sucking - to the point of recommending lashing their tiny wrists to the bedposts.

An Italian fashion company formed by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Dolce and Gabbana is considered one of the "most innovative" fashion designer teams working the design world today.

Their style is typically marked by, as considered by fashion critics, to be challenging gender roles, as well as blending chastity and seduction. An often cited example of this stems from their double-breasted pin-striped suit, typcially considerd a very masculine apparel item. However, D&G's version of it features the back of the vest in panties like black lace. Much of their inspiration comes from the Italian school of neo-realism film-making, as has been statated by the pair in several occasions.
