Salinas Escobar 's feet were moist and cold even though the day was warm and dry and sunny. His heart throbbed and his neck and temples ached. His insides struggled with the need to defecate, even though Salinas had been too nervous to desire to eat anything for breakfast or for dinner the night before.

Salinas Escobar faced the stranger's door and recited his litany inside his head, unable to find the courage to overcome his fear of knocking on the door. Salinas did not really need to recite what he would say when the door opened because he had spoken it many times that morning and many, many times in the past months in a number of different neighborhoods. Always he recited his litany with the fear which paralyzed him just as he was at this current moment but not without a shade of hope that, for once, his words would be…

It is most often used as an confirmation that you find someone's humorous statement to be both humorous and true.

It first appeared in the Voyager series, but was also mentioned in the Star Trek prequel, Enterprise. No real information is given, other than the facts that it is traded on the open market, it can be used to reinforce starship hulls, and can be used (and thus, presumably molded/shaped) by a starship without returning to port.

I am sometimes annoyed by how much teachers harp on race relations in the elementary school. From about third grade on, our school will generally have 2-3 units a year per grade explaining to the kids how horrible life was back when we had... genocide, slavery, segregation, and so forth. Which is important to know, but I can't help but feel that telling 8-year-olds that people used to hate people like you is not necessarily a good educational choice, no matter how positive you paint our social progress since.

And now for something else.

So, this morning I had taken a student to her regularly scheduled speech class, and we were waiting for a new student who was supposed to join us as soon as his bus got in. The two had not met yet, and all that Jane knew was that the new kids was 1) a boy and 2) in first grade, which was a little worrying, because Jane is still in Kindergarten (but the new boy's…

A house call is when a professional, most often a physician, goes to a person's home to provide services. Sadly, very few physicians will still make house calls, and so they are seen as a sign of a bygone, more service oriented age.
