Seawolf Park is located in Galveston, Texas, at the easternmost tip of Pelican Island. Aside from the usual park amenities like a playground and picnic areas, Seawolf Park has two main attractions: its fishing pier and its naval exhibit.

While entrance to the park is free, a parking pass costs $5. Admission to the naval exhibits also runs $5 per person ($2 for children under 11). The fishing pier is privately-run, and requires a $4 fee (again, $2 for kids under 11) if you plan to fish.

The Ships
Outside of Galveston, Seawolf Park is best known for its naval exhibit. Two World War II-era warships are in permanent drydock at the park: USS Cavalla and USS Stewart. The ships, in various states of restoration, are open to self-guided tours. Several plaques line the walkway to Cavalla detailing the history of USS Seawolf, the famous WWII submarine for which the park has been named. Strangely, none of the plaques…

THE STORY
The issue opens with Our Favorite Asgardian™ soaring high above the skies of Chicago. He notices a crowd gathered in front of the Wrigley Building, arriving on the scene just as a comely redhead throws herself from the roof. Being the hero he is, Thor catches the maiden and delivers her safely to the crowd below. He's greeted by a cadre of Thor-worshippers, joined by the girl he just rescued. She knew Thor would save her... it was a set-up!!! Thor flees the scene to avoid…

A few days ago, I introduced what I called an exercise in serial daylogging. This is the second installment of the series. Please read my writeup at March 13, 2004 before proceeding.

What I miss most about Winnipeg
I was born and raised in and around the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In all, I spent the better part of 27 years living in southern Manitoba before moving to Texas. This is a list of the important (and trivial) things I left behind in Winnipeg, and in Canada as a whole. At least the good things; the crappier things will be covered later.

Perogies -- Perhaps an odd item to lead off my list, but hey, a guy has to have his priorities straight! The strong elements of the Polish and {Ukraine|Ukrainian] immigrants who came to the city in the early 20th

…

An Introduction
With the wife off visiting relatives and some free time from work looming, I've decided to delve into an exercise in serial daylogging. Over the next two weeks, I will sumbit five daylogs (including this one) that will detail my experiences with uprooting myself and immigrating to another country. This series will not catalogue things like passports, visas, work permits and formal citizenship (as much of this has been discussed in other places). Instead, this project will delve into the intangible longings for home, and the newfound curiosities that counterbalance them.

In late-June/early-July 2001, I packed my worldly possessions into a…

Q the Letter
Q ("kyoo") is the 17th letter and 13th consonant of the alphabet. Despite its position of honor on the QWERTY keyboard, Q is the one of the three least-used letters in the English language (explaining its value of 10 points in SCRABBLE). In the grammar of English and most Romance languages, the rule is that Q is immediately followed by a U, and is pronounced as /kw/. The letter Q derives from the Phoenician qoph, and is both historically and phonetically linked to the letter K. It had achieved its present graphical form by the mid-Latin period.

Aside from the uppercase 'Q' and the lowercase 'q', this letter also can be represented in the following ways:
Morse code: --.-
ASCII: 81 (uppercase), 113 (lowercase)
Semaphore: LH high, RH out
Unicode: Q (uppercase), q (lowercase)
