"These concerts are the start point for The Long Walk To Justice,
the one way we can all make our voices heard in unison.
This is without doubt a moment in history where ordinary people can grasp the chance
to achieve something truly monumental and demand from the 8 world leaders at G8 an end to poverty.
The G8 leaders have it within their power to alter history. They will only have the will to do so
if tens of thousands of people show them that enough is enough.
By doubling aid, fully cancelling debt, and delivering trade justice for Africa,
the G8 could change the future for millions of men, women and children."

Telephone comes from the Greek word tele, meaning from afar, and phone, meaning voice or voiced sound. Generally, a telephone is any device which conveys sound over a distance.

A standard dictionary defines the telephone as "an apparatus for reproducing sound, especially that of the voice, at a great distance, by means of electricity; consisting of transmitting and receiving instruments connected by a line or wire which conveys the electric current." Electricity operates the telephone and it carries your voice. With that important point established, let's look at how a telephone works and its history.

How it works

The Handset and phone

On a very simplistic level, the telephone works using a microphone and speaker system. As you speak into the mouthpiece, the sound waves move a membrane, causing a small electrical coil (or carbon granules) to move through a magnetic field. This causes an analogue current to flow through the wire (the process is called…

On November 3rd, 2004, John Kerry conceeded the presidential election to George W. There were a substantial number of uncounted absentee and provisional ballots in Ohio that could still have clinched it for him but in this concession speech, Mr Kerry said it was clear that there were not enough outstanding votes to win Ohio and thus there were not enough Electoral College votes to win him the election.

This is his concession speech made at Fanueil Hall.

History

Founded in 1897, the beginnings of RAC Plc were formed by Frederick Richard Simms and Charles Harrington Moore. They took the constitution of the Automobile Club de France (ACF) and used it to create the basis for the Automobile Club of Great Britain and (later) Ireland (ACGBI). The society was formally inaugurated on 8th December, 1897 at the headquarters at 4, Whitehall Court, London, where they remained until 1902.

Not wanting to be outdone, the RAC have strived to be at the forefront of motoring. Uniformed patrols were introduced in 1901 and The Automobile Club recieved royal approval in 1907 from Edward VII and was henceforth known as…

Its conception led to the most famous underground railway system in the world.
The total length of route covered by the Underground is 259 miles, comprising of 146 miles above ground, 93 miles in tube tunnelling and 20 in "cut and cover" tunnel. Only about 10% of London's surface area is covered by highways, in comparason to to about 25% of a typical American city, making the city particularly dependent on its railway system; every day approximately 2.8 million journeys are made on the Underground system.
