Tempering is the act of exposing the body to regularly scheduled sudden onslaughts of cold water. Traditionally this is done through by, essentially, polar bearing or cutting a hole in the ice of a lake and jumping in or running into the cold ocean. If these traditional methods are not available, tempering can be done dumping three, five gallon buckets of ice cold water on yourself, or around 57 liters/litres. Tempering should be preceded by joint/mobility stretching or training. Proper tempering is done once or twice a day, without missing a single session. Tempering should never be followed by a hot/warm shower. It is recommended that a person tempers first thing in the morning and, if a second time, twelve hours later.

Tempering has been studied to have many positive effects. The body responds to tempering by raising the internal temperature, quickly and momentarily, to almost 42.2 degrees Celsius or 108 degrees Fahrenheit. The other positive affects have been found, but not…

Skin Yard was a multi-album grunge-alt band formed in the early Seattle scene of January 1985 by guitarist Jack Endino and bassist Daniel House. They added drummer Matthew Cameron who had recorded previously with Daniel. Three months later they added Ben McMillan on vocals.

The creation of Skin Yard, and essentially the first pulse of the grunge movement, had its roots in two earlier bands: Feedback and Ten Minute Warning. Daniel House played with both of these groups and, after their disbanding, sought to create a new sound combining each of these. The hopeful new sound of Skin Yard first performed live in June of 1985 and in late '85 the band was on the famous premiere grunge release of the Deep Six compilation. This limited edition vinyl released some of the earliest recordings of Soundgarden, Green River, and Skin Yard. In early 1986, Skin Yard released their first single and self-titled LP. This success, however, would only be the beginning of a long road fraught with…

(thing)

In an endless battle between Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic Mountain, the latter reset the World Coaster Record when, on April 12, 2003, when they opened Scream! SFMM's first floorless coaster, as well as Southern California's first floorless, was the 16th coaster for the legendary park.

And yes, the coaster name actually has an exclamation mark at the end...

Scream!'s 150' height is nothing to sneeze at. Other popular floorless coasters have similar heights without reducing thrill such as the 157' Dominator and the groundbreaking Medusa at 142'. In fact, Scream! is essentially a mirror image of Medusa with increased height. This B&M designed coaster, as are all floorless at this point, delivers the inversions thrill seekers look for with seven inversions after a top speed of 63 mph. Being a photogenic roller coaster, Scream! shows off a 128' vertical loop, a 96' diving loop, a camelback (creating zero-gs), interlocking
…

Square One TV was, by far, one of the single greatest memories of my childhood television, um, career?

On January 26, 1987, Mathman, a fantastic parody of Pac-man, suddenly accosted viewers when Square One TV premiered on PBS. Mathman, as we all should recall, could eat numbers that fit certain conditions, as in this premiere episode #101, Mathman could only eat "multiples of three, multiples of three..." and feared the Evil Mr. Glitch, he would eat Mathman when the Pac-manesque mouth was wrong. Square One TV's purpose was a television avenue, designed for upper elementary kids, to teach math using proven techniques from Sesame Street combined with excellent writing, cast, and guest appearances. Square One became known for a number of regular segments during these half-hour episodes spanning 1987 – 1992, as well as a most popular closing segment: Mathnet.

My best friend is, by far, one of the single most intelligent people I know. When bored he likes to be thrown five one-digit numbers, and one two-digit number. The goal of the "game" is to use the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) on the five numbers to achieve a final answer of the two-digit number. To do this, players must go through the numbers, in order, without creating any quantities (grouping numbers into parentheses). Over the years he has sometimes been stuck but never stumped. Last night, during a round of margaritas, he finally declared this one Unsolvable... First off, I may have mispoke: the numebers DO NOT have to stay in order. Based in LaPorte, Indiana, The Nemesis was aptly named due to the resistance to its creation. In the summer of 2001, Ryan Humphrey and alumni captains Adam Christ and Mike Gonzales attempted to form the team under the flag of LaPorte High School.
