Actually it was more out of necessity than anything else.

I'm getting a new car on Monday. Whee!

I'm shocked at how much junk was in my car. I filled a complete bin bag full o' crap. And a plastic crate of things that I want to keep.

Oh I'm so glad I'm getting a new car. My old one needs so much money spent on it. It needs a new exhaust, the brakes all need some attention, it needs some suspension bits, a wheel hit with sticks, and it lets water inside where it really shouldn't. My car is mouldy. Don't you just hate that?

But anyway, did I say I was getting a new car? Roll on Monday lunchtime.
depression (idea)http://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX/writeups/depressionagentz_osXhttp://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX2001-07-06T21:49:35Z2001-07-06T21:49:35ZIts been said before but I'll say it again, depression is an illness and it can be treated like any other day to day illness.

I was dignosed depressive a year and a half ago but I think I had been suffering for a long time before that. But I couldn't see it. I didn't believe what people were telling me. I was just tired. I couldn't sleep, and becuase I couldn't sleep I wasn't eating. I wasn't eating because I wasn't sleeping, and I wasn't sleeping because I was busy at work, I was busy at work because I wasn't performing, I wasn't performing because I wasn't sleeping.

Thats all I thought it was, that my sleep pattern had been disturbed and wasn't settling down.

It took an awful lot of persuasion from my partner and a couple of good friends to make me go to see a doctor. I was tired, not sleeping, thats all.

I hadn't been to a doctor for years and wasn't sure what to say when I did get there. Over an hour and many tears later I walked out of the surgery with a prescription for

…first foot (idea)http://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX/writeups/first+footagentz_osXhttp://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX2001-04-30T18:55:20Z2001-04-30T18:55:20ZFirst Footing is also a tradition in Scotland that takes place just after the turn of the year, ie very very early on January 1st.

The process of first footing is basically visiting a friend or a neighbour just after the bells bearing a gift of food or drink. In the past this was usually accompanied by a lump of coal (don't ask me why, I've no idea!).

Therefore, if my neighbour was to visit my at 12:05am on January 1st and bring me a drink, then they'd be first footing me.

SuccessMaker (thing)http://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX/writeups/SuccessMakeragentz_osXhttp://everything2.com/user/agentz_osX2001-03-25T21:13:30Z2001-03-25T21:13:30ZSuccessMaker is a comprehensive computer assisted instruction package to assist in the teaching of English, Science and Maths to students aged from 5 years. It is developed by Computer Curriculum Corporation and has been in continual development for over 20 years.

The SuccessMaker package actually consists of upto 50 plug in type modules that can be purchased in packages to operate in either a peer to peer or server based environment. As well as the teaching modules SuccessMaker also incorporates a comprehensive management package that allows teaching and administrative staff to closely monitor student targets and attainment.

One of the key concepts behind SuccessMaker is accelerated attainment. The makers claim to be able to achieve twelve months learning gains in six months. These claims are well backed by numerous studies carried out in countries including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Quite frequently they are made of some type of metallic foil with a strong adhesive on the reverse. They usually contain a unique identification number and some form of contact information for the organisation that owns the equipment. The stickers are also usually designed that they are very difficult to remove, often manufactured of a substance that once applied cannot be removed in one piece - the sticker cracks into hundreds of tiny fragments that have to be removed individually, even then a sticky, gunky residue is usually left behind. This quality often means that asset stickers are used to security mark expensive equipment.

I've just gotten home from work and I ache all over, had to get straight in the shower cos I felt so hot and sticky.

And here was me thinking that working as a Support Analyst would involve being sat in front of a computer in some state of disrepair or other. For the past two days we've been overrun by couriers and other sundry delivery people, all bringing in shed loads of new kit.

And I swear to god that my colleagues must have some sort of sixth sense that warns them when a truck is about to arrive so they all bugger off out ten minutes before it arrives.

So, last Friday, I'm sat at my laptop updating our database when this driver turns up at the door and says "I've got 27 boxes for you". I go look and find that he has 27 Hewlett Packard LaserJets on the van. I start running round like a headless chicken trying to find:

(A) Space to put the damn things and

(B) Someone to help me

Both of which

…
