Driving home from Soho, London. The Finchley Road is busy, a huge McDonalds articulated lorry follows another truck, and these behind two double decker buses. As they manoeuvre they're taking up more than their lane, encroaching on my land.

I make a mistake, judge the lanes wrong, end up behind the lorry. A VW Polo nips by. But my Mini is smaller and easily jinks in behind. I follow at a respectful distance as the Polo deftly negotiates the rolling blockade. The driver has grace, and my appreciation. A style akin to my own.
I've spent the day inside playing videogames, but I'm glad I did. I'd stopped playing properly for quite a while, to the point where I felt like I should play more to keep up to date with my hobby and the only industry I have really specialist knowledge in.

This has already helped me at work, since no one else knows much about them in my company and I've been recruited by a Senior Manager to…March 25, 2004 (person)http://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd/writeups/March+25%252C+2004WyldWyndhttp://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd2004-03-25T02:21:07Z2004-03-25T02:21:07ZMy writing has gone crap. <--- See --->

I look at my older E2 nodes, and I actually can't believe I wrote them -- and they're not even that good.

2-3 years of writing absolutely tons everyday on a forum has probably accelerated rather than slowed this entropy. It seems that where the semi-formal structure of E2 writing improved (and allowed me to develop at all) my style, the freeform nature of the forum destroyed it - even though I do my utmost to stick to rigorous grammar and spelling when posting.

I think it is the style issue that's at the heart of this, and my job has probably affected it too. The need to write 'business' language as well as the chatty nature of forum posting has turned what style I had into a lucid and clear, but utterly plain and conversational style with no discernable features. My writing has always been somewhat too conversational, but I think it's been pushed over the precipice now. A journalist friend of mine told me he'd spent…The Despair Faction (thing)http://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd/writeups/The+Despair+FactionWyldWyndhttp://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd2003-04-23T21:05:38Z2003-04-23T21:05:38ZThere's Movement in the Shadows...

The Despair Faction is the band AFI's official fanclub.

In their words:

What is The Despair Faction?

It was conceived as a way for AFI to recognize the fans that transcend the boundaries of everyday enthusiasm, bringing new meaning to the word "dedication". Its purpose was to give back to those who demonstrate a true understanding of, and devotion to, everything for which A Fire Inside stands. It has become an international "secret society" composed of people with much more in common than their love for AFI. They are the foundation, the Inner Circle, of the worldwide "AFI Community."

The Despair Faction, despite the rhetoric, is a relatively standard band fanclub, the rhetoric itself fitting in nicely with the style of the band and what attracts their fans, especially the quite large misunderstood teen demographic element. This is no bad thing though, it's…April 22, 2003 (idea)http://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd/writeups/April+22%252C+2003WyldWyndhttp://everything2.com/user/WyldWynd2003-04-21T23:11:32Z2003-04-21T23:11:32ZIn the darkness, a fire is kindled.
Motivation is a strange thing. I've always been labelled as lazy; bone idle it said on one of my first school reports. One my parents have kept and one my father used to delight in showing me by way of a reminder that I'll probably never change. I've proved him wrong on many other expectations though, why not this one?. This writeup in itself is to be a testament to the final reversal of my worst vice. Even if I don't start writing again (after this long hiatus), I'm determined to do something.
Some of my ambitions require money- learning to fly a helicopter, for example. It's something I will do, when I'm earning a little more. Even taking up fencing again requires more money and effort than I currently want to regularly lay out. But the small things I've stopped doing. Reading; I've been bogged down in Don DeLillo's White Noise for a while now. It's an impressive slice of technology and has a very futuristic feel.

The 6100 is a variant on the Nokia 7210/Nokia 6610 design. Whereas those two phones are identical with different outer shells, the 6100 is a different animal, albeit only slightly. Weighing 8g less and being 4mm less tall and wide, the 6100 is marginally, but noticably smaller, and only loses the battery draining Radio function in payment. Instead, the 6100 features Nokia's relatively useless Wallet function, that allows you to easily purchase stuff at WAP sites.

As with the 7210/6610, the 6100 has a 128x128, 4096 colour screen, and a 725 kB memory pool. All three are tri-band GSM phones.

Annoyingly, like all Nokia Series 40 Java phones, the 6100 doesn't support the optional sockets part of the Java MIDP…
