It was 13 years ago this month that I had my left leg amputated. Family and friends surrounded me in love, support and prayer during the battle that lasted three years. They did everything medically possible to save my leg, but when all was said and done, I couldn't take it anymore.

I'd gotten so depressed that I couldn't hide it from my family. I had always kept my chin up for them because from the bottom of my heart I believed that after all they had done for me, the least I could do for them was to be brave. Not even for them could I be strong.

The limb became necrotic and amputation was the best course of action. Hearing the doctor say the words was a shock at first as deep down inside I guess I was hoping for another answer. Lying in bed that night and thinking about it, however, I knew what was happening inside of my body and I knew what needed to be done.

Actress and former model Rebecca Gayheart is beautiful, sexy and talented. For two years, she was recognizable solely for her work on television commercials as the Noxzema Girl. Her hypnotic eyes and silky hair are enough to get anyone's attention. The commercials lead to a role on a daytime soap, a popular teen drama, as well as roles in films. Things were looking good for her until a car accident claimed a little boy's life and changed hers forever.

The good days are getting few and far between. When my mother helped me out of bed this morning, I went to brush my hair as I always do. While she was making my bed, I looked in the mirror and picked up my favorite hairbrush.

Suddenly, my entire arm went numb, I lost my grip on the brush and dropped it. For about 15 seconds, I was unable to move my arm, hand or my fingers. Fortunately, it had fallen back on my dressing table, where I could pick it up myself when the feeling in my arm returned.

Lack of coordination is not uncommon for me, so when the brush hit the table, my mother just continued on with what she was doing. With her back turned, she didn't see my arm go limp. I didn't want her to. She would only worry about something she has no control over. She worries about me enough as it is. I see it in her eyes whenever she looks at me.

It's the first day of the New Year and the goodies are tempting me right now. The good ol' booze and pills. There was a time when I was abusing the very thing that's supposed to help me. I would not only take more medication than was prescribed for me, but I also began mixing them with alcohol. Most of the time, I was so high that I had no idea what was going on around me. Nor did I care.

Commit suicide? No. I've been down this road before. I know just how much to take to catch a buzz or make myself numb just for a little while. I don't want to die because I have too much to live for. So why did I even think about getting high today? I'm in pain. I've not been feeling well for over a month. This is not uncommon with a disability such as mine, but none of this…
