The bare snow-gum trunks
layer the hillside;
at a distance like wolf fur.
Warm. Welcoming.

Up close, less so -
like skeletal fingers beckoning to me:
"Come join us. The fall is not so bad, we promise."

I shudder. Not just from the wind
sending soft tufts of cloud scuttling
over the ridgeline ahead,
but from a sudden premonition -

Of bones slumbering amongst
silent white trunks
and snow-laden clouds descending.
Covering. Smothering.

Like fur.
Like soft, white fur.

Some things grundoon taught me without really trying

I have often made mention of the fact that I grew up on E2. Â Having joined as a child, I was granted the amazing opportunity to be exposed to some seriously kick-ass lady noder role models as I grew. Â Ladies who somehow justÂ knewÂ when I had a bad day and were ready with e-hugs, ones who taught me the power of being a woman, ones who taught me that when you truly believe in something it's ok to take a stand, ones who pointed out to me when one of my relationships had tipped into being very unhealthy, ones who patiently walked me through the basics of writing - and many more besides.

I was lucky in that in these women I found a potent combination of mother, sister, mentor, and friend (whether they know it or not!). Â And grundoon fitted this description perfectly. Â It's funny how you can get such a sense of someone over pixels, even though you've never…

Roadtrip: A Noder Collaborative Prose Production (event)

The Concept

In the past, E2 prosewriters have not infrequently banded together to produce collaborative pieces, frequently with great results. Â Well-known examples of such collaboration include Walking Man, City of Souls I, and Briefcase Full of Souls - Part I. Â However, given there has been a while since the last such effort, it seems time to wrangle together the storytellers of E2 to present a new collaboration: Roadtrip.

Roadtrip will be a cycle of twelve stories, each by a different noder, beginning with myself (Posmella). Â In the great tradition of storytelling, Roadtrip will feature best friends (a guy and a girl) crossing some fictional countryside in a car, and following a classic story arc involving a crisis (or crises) and finally resolution. Â What happens in between - who they meet, where they go, what they do - is up to the individual writer, within some prescribed limits.

Yellow Lemon Lentils (recipe)

Yellow Lemon Lentils (try saying thatÂ five times fast!) is one of those recipes invented by necessity. Â As I've recently resigned from my job and moved overseas to pursue other options, I'm needing to live on very little money while I get established in my new home. Â However, unlike in my university days when living on toasted sandwiches, instant noodles, minced beef, and beer seemed feasible for years on end (with scurvy averted by trips back to the nest on a semi-regular basis), I now have a greater appreciation of nutrition. Â So bearing in mind the need to eat well, eat cheaply, and eat with pleasure, I recently devised this recipe. Â It's great as a quick and healthful lunch or as a side dish at dinner (particularly with chicken), and keeps well in the fridge (so can be prepared in advance in a large batch - just double the recipe). Â It also has a lovely yellow colour - although be careful not to stain the kitchen with turmeric! - and adding the lemon zest at the end gives…

In re The Debutante's musings, a few small comments for consideration:

Chanops generally do a good job, and I and many others appreciate their work.
The Debriefing Room should be private. Â ((Ed: I understand this has now been done. Â Awesome; thanks coders!))
New users should have the chanops powers explained to them.
While we should tolerate free expression, there are limits (as is always the case - eg inciting a riot, burning a flag, threatening a monarch, denying a genocide, or yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre). Â Some topics are just not okay. Â Rights have responsibilities, and we should all bear this in mind.
EDB, used wisely, is a good arbiter of community expectations of interaction.
How long you have been at this website should not impact on your ability to be censured. Â No user (including staff) has the right to impose their vision of E2 on anyone
