Gospel of Judas (thing)

The surviving Lost Gospel of Judas was mentioned in a publication by the bishop of Lyon, St. Irenaeus over 1700 years ago. In it, Judas betrays Jesus Christ on Jesus' own order. Accounts on the Gospels of John, Luke, Mark, and Matthew depicts Judas as a reviled traitor who betrayed Jesus in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.

The manuscript was believed to be discovered in El Minya, Egypt during the 1970s. It was not until 2000 that it would resurface and be identified as The Gospel of Judas. Because of its fragile state, it took five years to reconstruct the manuscript to a readable form.

This document is generating controversy around the world as it contradicts Catholic Church belief on who Judas Iscariot really was.

A Philippine Family Reunion on Christmas Day (thing)

The sound of the firecracker was loud enough to catch everyone's attention. Including the dog. But after a second or two, everything went back to normal.

Normal though is not a word to be used during a Filipino Family Reunion. Let alone one done on Christmas Day. There are certain rules and guidelines one must be aware of, to hold such an event. Here are some;

1. Ornate Christmas decorations are not required. Most of us Filipinos, appreciate even the simplest of decors. A small wreath would do. And since Mistletoes are not indigenous to the Philippines, the concept of using one may give you the strangest of reactions. (But... we're cousins!)

2. A Karaoke machine IS a requirement. Singing is one trait that most, if not all, Filipinos carry. Actually, the Love of singing since some, including myself, can't carry a tune.

Darna (person)

Darna is a Philippine comic book heroine created by Mars Ravelo in the mid 1950's. She has an uncanny resemblance to Wonder Woman.

Darna's alter ego is Narda, a cripple. She can transform into Darna by swallowing a white stone (which came from outer space) and shouting "Darna!". To transform back into Narda, she had to shout "Narda!" and spit out the stone. Accompanied by her younger brother, Ding, they would fly across the sky in search of evil.

Her first ever nemesis is Valentina, a snake goddess who resembles Medusa. Most of Darna's enemies, are mythological creatures (both foreign and local). They range from vampires, giants to human female leeches (!).

Darna's stories were serialized in Pilipino Komiks (aside from Darna, this publication had around four to five other stories).

She doesn't really have any weaknesses to speak of, except of course the Heimlich Maneuver.

TRUE STORY June 2001 Manila, Philippines I just got out of a very sordid affair January of that year. Banana Catsup

In the Philippines, one particular condiment that stands out is Banana Catsup. The most popular brand is UFC Banana Catsup.

The condiment is found in virtually every Filipino home, and accounts for a whopping 95 percent of the so-called red sauce market, which includes sweet chili sauce and hot sauce.

This condiment has a somewhat particular sweet-sour taste. One cannot even discern the taste of bananas in it. It is usually served with fried meats such as chicken and pork chops. In the Philippines, this is even used as the base for spaghetti (Filipino's even put sliced hotdogs in it) and pizza (again with hotdogs) instead of tomato sauce.
