While Dead Can Dance did a masterful rendition of this old song, it was actually written by Robert Dwyer Joyce 1830-1883. This song was written both as a love song and a Fenian rebel song which glorified the rising of 1798 in Ireland, and refers to a peasant army in Wexford, led by a priest put the rout to the English in a battle at Oulart Hill
