Baroque Music is a period of music that started in the 17th century and lasted until 1750, which is not coincidentally the death-date of J.S.Bach. Common musical forms of the Baroque Period include the Concerto grosso, the Cantata, and the Fugue. Counterpoint played a very important role in the composition of musical pieces from the baroque period.
