Shock treatment

Not the sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment is a different movie, written and directed by the same people, starring a lot of the same actors in the same roles doing different things in a similar setting. But it's not the sequel. The (planned) sequel was to be called Revenge of the Old Queen, but was never made.

Shock treatment is also recommended if your groundwater supply (a dug or drilled well) has been polluted by bacterial contaminants. Contamination can result from the construction process, faulty construction, or as a result of a maintenance procedure. Shock treatment is also somewhat effective against iron bacteria or sulphate-reducing bacteria.

In general, shock treatment means producing a cholrine concentration of more than 300 ppm (Parts per million).

The general procedure for shock treatment is as follows:

From personal experience, you should not skimp on any step. If you do it wrong, your system will not be cleaned, and you will be painfully forced to repeat the process. After 10 days, get a good bacteriological analysis to see if you were successful. Repeat several days later just to be sure.

Shock Treatment, more correctly known as ECT or Electroconvulsive Therapy is the process of passing electricity through a patient's brain, simulating/causing a small epileptic seizure. The rationale behind this treatment is that certain mentally ill epileptics seemed to have a cessation of their mental symptoms after a seizure.

Literary links to this now largely discredited therapy are One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey and Zen and the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance by Robert M. Pirsig.

Like Rocky Horror (its non-prequel), Shock Treatment is a rock 'n' roll musical. It came out in 1981 and did quite poorly at the box office (as RHPS did at first.) However, unlike Rocky, it was never fully revived into a midnight movie and plays only occasionally, both at Rocky Horror Conventions and by indepdant casts, though few Shock Treatment shows have lasted long, unfortunately. Some Rocky Horror fans have an even greater devotion to this film than to RHPS itself.

Many people have to watch the movie more than once to start liking it, or to even get what's going on. The story goes a little something like this: Brad and Janet have gotten married, but are having problems in their relationship; this time around, Janet is the dominant one and Brad is submissive. They go on Denton's Marriage Maze gameshow and win some free psychiatric care. Dr.s Cosmo and Nation McKinley are running the health care system and dope Brad up, convincing Janet that it's for the best. As it turns out, Farley Flavors is behind the scenes playing a role in what's going on, and the movie ends with a bit a duel between Cliff De Young and Cliff De Young (as Brad and Farley.) The entire film takes place on a TV soundstage and everything is part of television in one way or another. All in all it's a pretty weird movie, but worth watching at least once, IMO.

The songs in Shock Treatment are:
1. Denton, U.S.A.
2. Bitchin' in the Kitchen
3. In My Own Way
4. Thank God I'm a Man
5. Farley's Song

7. Little Black Dress
8. Me of Me
9. Shock Treatment
10. Carte Blanche
11. Looking for Trade
12. Look What I Did To My Id
13. Breaking Out
14. Duel Duet
15. Anyhow, Anyhow

Also track 8 to the soundtrack of Shock Treatment.

Cosmo McKinley:
I'm not a loco with motive to suture myself,
I've been a cynic for too many years.
Playing doctor and nurse, it can be good for your health,
I've seen clinics with those gimmicks in Tangiers.

Nation McKinley:
But if you open your heart to a smooth operator,
He'll take you for all that you've got.
He'll hand you a curse that'll be with you later,
It'll shake you the way he takes off like a shot.

Cosmo McKinley:
You need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment,

Cosmo McKinley:
Gets you jumping like a real live wire, Need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment.

Cosmo McKinley:
So look out Mister, don't you blow your last resistor,
For a vista that'll mystify ya.

Nurse Ansalong:
You're blinded by romance, you're blinded by science,
You're condition is critically grave.
But don't expect mercy from such an alliance,
Suspicion of traditions so new wave.

Cosmo McKinley:
You need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment,

Cosmo McKinley:
Gets you jumping like a real live wire,
Need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment,

Cosmo McKinley:
So look out Mister, don't you blow your last resistor,
For a sister that'll certify ya, fy ya, fy ya.

Cosmo McKinley:
You need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment.

Cosmo McKinley:
Gets you jumping like a real live wire,
You need a bit of..

Chorus:
Ooooh...Shock Treatment.

Cosmo McKinley:
So look out Mister, don't you blow your last resistor,
For a sister that'll certify ya, fy ya, fy ya, fy ya!
