The Flying Scotsman is a Gresley Class A3 Pacific built at Doncaster works by the London and North Eastern Railway and is numbered 4472. It achieved the first ever verified instance of a locomotive achieving a speed of 100 mph. 4472 still exists today and has visited Australia (1988-1989) and the United States (1969-1972).
