In Havana there's a big, solemn-looking building that our guide told us was the American government's representation there. Not an embassy - "No diplomatic relations" is responsible for that - but a building full of Americans who, I presume, pass the occasional surreptitious message between the two governments. Or something. It's possible their sole function is to hoist the Yanqui flag every day.

Sitting in front of this building, right next to the big, multilane road that runs along the beachfront, is a field of several dozen black flags of identical height and size. Apparently, when the Americans set up shop in the building, the Cuban government erected one black flag for each war crime (according to them) the US has committed around the world. As of December 2006 there were 50 or 60 flags.

It's a bit like a governmental hack.
