(From the Medieval Latin sororitas, "sisterhood", which is from the Latin soror, "sister") A group of woman or girls joined together by common interests, for fellowship, etc. In United States colleges and universitys, a sorority is a Greek-letter organization for women. They are formed mainly for social purposes. Membership is by invitation, and is in some cases discriminatory. They are banned in some colleges and universities.
