In film: the number of shots filmed in order to get the one shot that is used in the final production. On a tight budget it would be low, like 5:1 meaning five takes were needed to get the one that works. On big budget Hollywood productions the figure is much higher; 16:1, 30:1, 50:1.... lots of footage to work with.
