second-run movie theatre

A movie theatre that gets films when they are no longer shown in the theatres that get them first. Second-run theatres are usually much cheaper than first-run theatres. They also usually have smaller screens, worse sound, less comfortable seating, and aren't as clean, but they're nice to have around when you're trying to see a movie that isn't playing or never played in first-run theatres near you. For instance, I would've had to go into Manhattan to see Dancer in the Dark when I decided I wanted to see it, but a couple of weeks leater it was playing in a second-run theatre much nearer to my town.
