The sampling rate is the interval at which samples are taken from a data source. This term is most commonly heard in connection with digital audio, where the most common sampling rates are:

  • 8,000 Hz
  • 11,025 Hz
  • 22,050 Hz
  • 32,000 (Used in DAT machines for lower quality recording)
  • 44,100 Hz (The sampling rate used for CDs)
  • 48,000 Hz (Used in DAT machines for higher quality recording)
