Often used to describe ANY mind-altering drug. However to keep with the "light" nature of the word recreational it may be better to apply it to the less destructive drugs such as ethanol, marijuana, LSD, MDMA and so forth. (IOW: Exclude cocaine, butane, heroin and other hyper addictive "selfish" drugs.)
