A much more elevated synonym for prologue or preface, thus generally denoting any introductory remarks or preliminary discussion. Use this word at the beginning of any books you might write in place of the aforementioned synonyms and you'll seem twice as learned whilst also making you seem twice as arrogant. In all cases, though it will make your book seem slightly more enlightening.
