from Latin per-, "thorough" + tussis, "cough".
  1. n. - a medication to treat a cough, either by inducing coughing or dessicating the affected passages. From the same Latin root, we get Robitussin, a pertussive.
  2. adj. - afflicted with pertussis (whooping cough) or, contemporarily, coughing heavily regardless of cause.
