A moderately sophisticated tomographic view of the dentition and more.
Shows the entire dentition and underlying bone, the maxillary sinuses, the temporomandibular joint, and hyoid bone. AKA panaromic x ray.

Used by Dentists as a general screening radiograph for pathology associated with wisdom teeth or missing teeth, the whole dentition (e.g. for full clearance), implants & orthodontics and the temporomandibular joint and for those kiddies who won't let you take a little x-ray in their mouth.

The image is a composite of the lateral oblique view of the mandible, and periapical views of most of the teeth.

All you have to do is stand in a twenty thousand dollar scanora machine and bite on a piece of plastic. The machine will calculate the size of your head and move around it 3 times... unfortunately it doesn't calculate the height of your shoulders which can sometimes get in the way.
