| This is an excellent place to store herbs and herb products. a) Non-plastic: Since plastics are comprised primarily of hydrophobic constituents, the volatile aromatic compounds which make these plants smell so good and which are incidentally hydrophobic themselves can diffuse through the container where they do you and I little good.
b) Light-impervious: If you leave a red shirt in the sun all day, the dye will absorb photons and get
broken apart, or bleached. Many of the medicinally active or culinarily interesting chemical constituents of plants are very delicate, and are easily degraded by the absorption of photons, the higher energy the worse. Hence, brown tinted bottles to absorb blue light. |
