In ultimate frisbee, diving after the disc. Lay outs are great. I love laying out. You fly through the air after this piece of plastic, and it's just a great adrenaline rush. I try and lay out as much as I can, but it's not easy to lay out. It takes timing and practice, and if you don't lay out correctly, you can hurt yourself pretty badly. But laying out is awesome.

In jazz music performance, to lay out is for a musician to not play with the rest of the band on one or more tunes. For instance on Miles Davis' famous Kind Of Blue album, Cannonball Adderley lays out on the third track, Blue In Green.
