There seems to be a class of pseudo-solutions for those that are willing to accept suboptimal results in the name of efficiency. These ideas are tested under the why not? rule--you identify one dismissable reason why not, and then do a quick mental rundown to make sure there aren't any catastrophic failure-modes. It takes a while for the ineffectiveness to settle in, but these strategies are ultimately and irreverably doomed to fail over the long term.

Note that these are neither clever nor innovative, but are rather take advantage of circumstance, such as having a large place all to yourself.
