A hugging pillow is an artifact of a lonely life. It's not clear exactly how the hugging pillow affects one's comfort level, but that it increases it cannot be denied. Perhaps it's a security thing, that is, a grown-up substitute for a blankie or stuffed animal. Maybe it's a replacement for another person in the bed on restless nights when another body would be the perfect sedative. Or maybe it's just a strange habit.
