This is another name for a subway. Ussually, the trains get thier power by a third rail, run in groups of Mu cars, and are operated on a right of way that is separated from road crossings and other rail lines. While many heavy rail lines run underground, some do also run on the surface. They ussually have station platforms that are level w/ the cars, as opposed to ground level ones of most light rail lines.
