Furoshiki refers to the
Japanese method of aesthetically wrapping a present in a decorative and soft
scarf through various twists, folds, and knots. A cubic box could be wrapped by tying opposite paired corners of the scarf together.
Furoshiki literally means
bath mat, which originated in 12th century Japan. People who
bathed in a stream would stand on a furoshiki while changing into clean clothes, then use it to carry their
damp clothing on their way home.
